Where To Buy Trendy Affordable Maternity Clothes Online

Are you pregnant and wondering where the heck to find the best trendy and affordable maternity clothes online?? Girl SAME. We just announced our pregnancy on the gram (yay!) and now that I am feeling more human (man that first trimester was brutal!) and starting to get a bit of a belly, I have begun my extensive research on where I can find some super trendy but still affordable maternity clothes. Because momma’s gotta look cute! Not sorry about it!

My biggest questions when perusing the online maternity clothing selection are things like how the heck do I know what size I am? Should I be sizing up? Stick with my usual? Also at what point do I really need maternity clothes? Can’t I just size up in normal clothes and call it a day? I’m going to answer all those questions and more in this blog post and share some fun pregnancy clothing hacks to make your current wardrobe last a bit longer even with that expanding belly!

Maternity Clothing Sizing:

Okay I was definitely confused about maternity clothing sizing, but no need for that! If you are specifically shopping at a maternity clothing store online you just stick with your pre-pregnancy size! Even for jeans! Although your waist no longer measures at its original size, you can still stick with that size when ordering.

Most sites also usually have a sizing guide if you’re still confused. You can also check out the reviews to see how sizing works. I normally do this even when I’m not pregnant because sometimes items run small or large and you will certainly get the TRUTH from the angry lady in the comments section who ordered her normal size and she can barely squeeze into it!

Do I REALLY Even Need Maternity Clothes?

I mean honestly? Maybe not! But maybe yes. You COULD just size up a few sizes and have it work out for you! I’ll also be touching on “bump-friendly” clothing and some clothing hacks to help make your current wardrobe last longer while your belly is expanding!

The only issue with sizing up is that while it may accommodate your new round belly, it might not fit you how you like everywhere else! If you’re still the same size in your legs and arms, you might find that the sleeves or legs are too long or wide for your liking. Especially if you’re on the shorter side or seem to only be gaining weight in your stomach and look the same everywhere else. I don’t know why we applaud women who only seem to gain in their stomach and leave everyone else who gains elsewhere to feel like crap. Like since when is Mike Wasowski the body type we’re after?? Personally I am hoping for some thicker thighs and a booty after all is said and done. But of course I have no control over this and gotta remind myself we are beautiful no matter where do or do not gain weight! Our body is literally housing a tiny human! Let it do it’s thing!

So anyway, it might work out in the earlier stages of pregnancy if you’re just sizing up one size in regular clothing! And you might appreciate a larger size after pregnancy too because not everyone shrinks back down to their normal size afterwards anyway! But later on in the pregnancy you’ll definitely appreciate clothes that are MADE for pregnant women specifically. They’re made with your comfort in mind and usually have a more flattering fit for your new, unique body shape! So it’s your call, but I think having a few good true maternity pieces in your rotation is definitely helpful!

“Bump-Friendly” Clothing versus Maternity Clothing

This maxi dress works as affordable maternity clothes and as a non-maternity option! I am not pregnant at all in this photo! Love this dress! Totally “bump-friendly” Shop it on Amazon here!

“Bump-Friendly” clothing is actually the happy medium! They are pieces of clothing that just happen to be loose enough or stretchy enough around the stomach area that you don’t need to size up or buy a maternity version of it! Think stretchy bodycon dresses (that are at least midi length! Mini might ride up with a bump), babydoll fit tops and dresses, flowy maxi dresses, etc. Some these things come in and out of style, but some are pretty standard/classic items you probably already have in your closet! Or wouldn’t mind buying since they totally work after baby too!

My stomach has always been my insecurity before ever even thinking about getting pregnant (never did accomplish getting a flat stomach or abs! Oh well!), so I luckily have a ton of options in my closet that are pretty bump-friendly! So I’m kind of a pro at finding on-trend, bump-friendly pieces! So I know at this point I’ve convinced you that having a few maternity pieces in your closet, especially at the end of pregnancy, is going to be key. BUT, if you want to try your best to make some of your regular clothes work for as long as possible and/or avoid buying some pieces that could be unnecessary, check out these hacks that I will DEFINITELY be trying out in order to still rock what is currently in my closet even with a growing a baby bump!

Maternity Clothing Hack #1: Buy a bra-extender instead of new bras!

These nifty little bra-extenders will make your bras stretch wider and avoid you having to shell out a ton of money on all new bras as your boobs grow during pregnancy. You can get them on Amazon for super cheap and they even come in different colors to match your current bra collection!

Maternity Clothing Hack #2: Make your jeans last longer with jean extenders or a hair-tie!

Yes, a hair-tie! Once you reach the point where your jeans aren’t buttoning anymore, you can actually slip a hair tie or rubber band through the hole! Your fly will totally be open, so just make sure to wear a long enough shirt to cover all that up. They also make jean extenders that are a little bit more fancy if you don’t trust your hair-tie to do the job. Another super cheap thing you can find on Amazon!

Maternity Clothing Hack #3: Use kinesiology tape instead of buying a belly band!

Yes you can literally just use kinesiology tape instead of buying an expensive belly band for support later on in your pregnancy. This will help support your lower back as you’re carrying the weight of your unborn child all in your stomach! Are belly bands considered clothing technically? I don’t know, but still thought this hack was worth sharing. Check out this blog post here on ways to use kinesiology tape to support your pregnant belly.

Maternity Clothing Hack #4: Rent or borrow your maternity clothes!

maternity clothing rental websites for pregnant women

If you just KNOW you’re never going to where any of this crap again, you could always just use a maternity clothing rental service like Infinitely Loft, Nuuly, or Rent The Runway ! Or if you really want to save some money… hit up your girlfriends, sister, cousins, whoever that has been pregnant before and ask for some hand-me-downs. Chances are they’re never wearing these pieces again, or if they do end up getting pregnant again, you can swap them right back!
