Faux leather leggings came onto the scene a couple years ago and I don’t think they’re going anywhere anytime soon. They’re a total closet staple for MANY reasons. First of all, COMFORT. Leggings are way comfier than jeans! Second of all, they are effortlessly chic! They look elevated and like you actually tried to look cute but really all you did was… slap on a pair of leggings! The faux leather just elevates the look and makes it look a little more dressed up even though you’re dressed down. It puts the “hot” in hot-mess and we’re all about it!

For the record, I do own the Spanx faux leather leggings. They are pricey, but they are quality. They easily check every box in what you are looking for in a good pair of faux leather leggings and if you’re looking to invest in a good pair that won’t disappoint, I say get them! I have a personal favorite cheaper Spanx dupe that I 100% would rather wear then the actual Spanx pair, but that is a personal preference and has to do with what I look for in a pair of leggings. So read through your options and decide for yourself!

Things we look for in a GOOD pair of faux leather leggings:

Minimal “scrunching” that makes them look cheap and baggy! We want them tight to the skin.
Shine! We want some shine! Not too much, and not too little.
Sucks you in! We want to be sucked in around the waist for a control-top type of feel. None of the dupe options suck you in quite as well as the Spanx pair, but they definitely do a good enough job! (TBH the Spanx pair is a bit over the top in this area for me!)
Comfort- we need to feel comfortable!! That’s the point of leggings, right??
NO NOISE. Some pairs of faux leather leggings make an awful squeaky noise and we do NOT want that! Nobody needs to be aware of our chub rub making its presence known. We’ll keep that on the DL thank you very much.

So I will be judging all of these brands based on the criteria above! I am working on trying all of these on myself, but for the ones I have not, I have deep dived on the reviews or asked people that I trust who own them for an honest review.

1) RetroGong Faux Leather Leggings from Amazon

These are my NUMBER 1 top choice for the best faux leather leggings / Spanx dupes in the GAME. The pricing changes often on Amazon, but I usually see them priced around $46. Anything less than that jump on it because you’re getting a deal! Regardless, they are worth every penny. I actually PREFER them to my Spanx pair! I know, I know, crazy. But the material I SWEAR is the exact same (it’s not quite leather it’s like a crackled/faux shine material that is identical to the Spanx version), they’re cheaper, they’re nice and high waisted and they don’t suck you in as much as the Spanx pair. For some, that’s a minus, for me, it’s a plus! I just find them to be comfier. No issues with bunching at all, I just can’t say enough good things about this pair!

2) Scoop Faux Leather Leggings from Walmart

This pair is also really hard to beat because they check every box and they’re only $26! I placed it at number 2 because the material is more “leathery” than the Amazon and Spanx version, and there is SLIGHT bunching sometimes at the knee, but it’s really not bad AT ALL compared to other pairs I have tried. So again it comes down to preference because maybe you want a pair that looks more like true leather, and in that case these are PERFECT. Also if you’re looking to spend under $30, then this pair wins hands down. One of my favorite purchases from Walmart EVER.

3) High Waisted Crackle Leggings from American Eagle

I BRIEFLY have tried this pair on before because I gifted them to my sister and they are pretty amazing! I am hoping to purchase them and really wear them around to be sure but the ratings on these things speak for themselves. It’s that same material that the Amazon pair and the Spanx pair are and it’s pretty fantastic. The pricing changes on these a lot. If they’re not on sale they are $54.95 which is getting up there. I would say if you see them on sale, snag them because the material is spot on and the fit is FANTASTIC.

Faux Leather Leggings Spanx Dupes / Cheaper Spanx Faux Leather Leggings Alternatives To SKIP

1) ASSET by Spanx Faux Leather Leggings from Target

SO you would think the dupe MADE by Spanx as a cheaper alternative would be good but… apparently not that great! It’s a $40 price point, so it’s more affordable than the original Spanx brand (those are $98 when they’re not on sale). I have not tried this pair but reviews state that they’re SQUEAKY which is really a deal breaker.

2) Wild Fable Faux Leather Leggings from Target

This pair is… just okay! They’re only $20, which is fantastic, but the Scoop pair from Walmart are identical and beat them in every aspect and they’re only $6 more! This pair bunches at the crotch, knee, and ankles pretty badly!. Warning that there is also a $16 version of these leggings, and if the $20 pair didn’t work so well for me, I highly doubt that the $16 pair will be much better! Better skip all the Target options!

3) Super High Waisted Vegan Leather Seamed Leggings from Express

Another pair I would skip! I have never tried this pair in particular, but I have tried faux leather leggings from Express in the past and they were oddly… slippery? Like they wouldn’t stay on my body and would slip down. Also I can just tell from the photos of the model and real life people wearing them on their site that the fit isn’t the tightest! For me, I like my leggings tight with minimal bunching. These seem bunch-y to me and I just don’t trust the quality from previous experiences. I’d say you have some much better affordable options out there!

So those are all the most buzzed about faux leather leggings / Spanx dupes out there right now! I hope this helps you make a decision on which pair to purchase. It really all comes down to preference of material, fit, and budget! If it’s in your budget and you know you’ll wear them often, I say treat yourself and go for the real deal and get the Spanx faux leather leggings! They’re raved about for a reason! And even though I prefer the Amazon pair, I still LOVE my Spanx pair and wear them all the time! (Usually on less bloated days because I really just don’t like the feeling of being sucked in! On the other hand a lot of people WANT that effect from their leggings, so it’s a plus!) So again, personal preference!
