The Best Styles of Jeans to Own in 2025 (& How to Style!)
If an outfit featuring the perfect pair of jeans is your vibe, then today's post is for you, girlfriend!
I'm excited to share my list of the different styles of jeans to own in 2025 because I feel as if we've reached a breaking point in the endless trend cycle where anything goes! Thanks to everyone being chronically online and connected, and the wonderful world of late stage capitalism (sarcasm, I promise), the trend cycle moves so quickly that it's hard to point to a style of jeans and say "that's out of style!".
What can make you look dated or out of style is wearing them with the wrong thing! So today, I am sharing 11 different types of jeans that work for a stylish 2025 wardrobe, but I honestly think you can get away with owning only 7 different types since some styles are so similar.
Now whether you want to stick to just a few in a couple different washes, or you prefer having lots of variety in the shape and style of your jeans, you can make this list work for your own personal style, body shape and budget. So let's get into the list of the best types of jeans to add (or keep) in your wardrobe.
11 Styles of Jeans to Own in 2025 (& How to Style Them!)
Straight-Leg Jeans or Skinny Jeans
Having a good pair of slim-fit jeans in your closet is always going to be a great staple to grab. Sometimes a baggy look on the bottom just isn't the vibe, especially if you're trying to look a bit more balance and put together with a longer or looser top.
There are definitely rumors out there that skinny jeans are coming back in style, but if you want a compromise for now in the slim fit jeans category, slim straight leg jeans (they have a slightly more relaxed fit) are an easy classy edition to your wardrobe.
Style tip:
Balance the fitted silhouette by pairing them with an oversized blazer or flowy top for a chic, effortless look.

Wide-Leg Jeans or Baggy Jeans
In my opinion, there's a difference between a baggy jean and a wide-leg jean. When I think wide-leg jean I think of a more clean, tailored look that is likely high rise fit in the waist and might even be a slightly cropped fit. When I think baggy jeans I think looser fits that are likely a low-rise jeans style. They might even be a cargo pant style as well.
I don't think it's necessary to own both, but it's all up to your own personal style and preference! If you like a more edgy, youthful style then the baggy jeans are likely more your vibe. If you lean more classic, then the wide-leg variety is more likely what you'll like. Personally I am more of a classic wide-leg jean girl!
Style tip:
You can tuck in your top or opt for a cropped style to highlight your waist and keep the look polished, but don't be afraid to pair an oversized top with oversized pants sometimes!

Bootcut Jeans or Flare Jeans
Another category that depends on your personal preference! These jeans are perfect for styling with boots and taller shoes, but they also can look chic with anything from a pair of heels to the right sneaker or sandal. I find the flare to be a bit more like a true bell bottom where the flare is very accentuated. Bootcut jeans tend to only have a slight flare and a slimmer fit.
Style tip:
Elevate your outfit with heeled boots or wedges to enhance the leg-lengthening effect of the cut and style your way to long legs.
Outfit ideas:
Barrel Jeans
Now this is an absolute optional piece, but since we're talking about jeans in 2025, it has to be mentioned! The barrel jean trend has taken over this year and I think it's sticking around for a few years! So if you like the fit (it's got a sort of tapered leg that is shaped like a horseshoe) and typically a mid-low rise waist, then it could be worth investing in a pair or two!
Style tip:
Keep the look structured with a fitted or tailored top to contrast the voluminous shape of the jeans. But same advice as with the wide-leg jeans, don't be afraid to go with a looser fit on top when you want a more laidback casual wear look.

Black Jeans
I think a pair of black jeans is a a good idea to have in any wardrobe, especially in the colder months! Sometimes a blue jean just does not work, and having a black pant option that can be dressed up or down can help you create so many different outfits.
My favorite pair I own are a high-rise pair with a wide-leg silhouette, but your black pair can be whichever style of jeans suits you best.
Style tip:
Dress them up with a sleek monochrome outfit or add bold accessories for an edgy, put-together look.

White Jeans
White jeans are a great option for the warmer months, but I also think they work great as a wardrobe staple year round. They are the perfect jeans when you want to keep your look light and neutral. Finding the perfect pair with the right fit is key since white is not a very forgiving color, so you want to make sure they are a good pair of jeans that fit you right.
Style tip:
Wear nude or seamless undergarments to prevent any see-through mishaps and keep the look crisp and clean.

Printed Jeans: Leopard or Camo
I think it's always fun to have a printed pair of jeans in the mix, but this definitely an optional category. In 2025, the predominant trendy prints right now are for sure camo print jeans and leopard print jeans. I love that they both can read pretty neutral, so they're not as hard to style as you would imagine!
In 2025, the best jeans styles to choose for staying on trend would be the more oversized fits like wide-leg, baggy, or barrel jean styles.
Style tip:
You can let the jeans be the statement piece by pairing them with neutral tops and minimal accessories, but don't be afraid to pair with bold colors from time to time!
