2027 Designer Bag Trends It-Girls Know About

If you’re even remotely obsessed with designer bags, 2027 is shaping up to be a very interesting year.

Image that says 2027 Designer Bag Trends the It Girls are Wearing and has a girl with a trendy bag in the background.

For a while there, everything was getting quieter. Tiny logos. Super simple shapes. Bags that were basically designed to whisper, “Yes, this cost $4,000, but only the people who know will know.”

That look isn’t completely disappearing, but designer bags are definitely getting more personality again.

We’re seeing recognizable shapes return from the archives, bigger proportions, more hardware, more texture and bags that actually look like something.

And honestly? I’m into it.

A lot of the trends already starting to emerge feel like the natural next step after years of super minimal bags dominating everything.

Here are the designer bag trends I expect to be huge in 2027:

1. Archival Bags Are Coming Back

Designer brands digging through their own archives is going to continue to be a huge deal in 2027.

And I don't just mean vintage-inspired bags.

We’re talking about actual recognizable silhouettes from previous decades being brought back, reworked or referenced in new collections.

It makes sense. There are SO many incredible designer bags from the '90s and 2000s that already have a following, and the vintage designer market has made people much more aware of older styles.

Instead of every fashion house desperately trying to create the next brand-new It bag, I think we’re going to see even more of them look backward.

2. Doctor Bags

Doctor bags are easily one of the biggest shapes to watch going into 2027.

They have that structured, slightly vintage shape with a wide base, curved top and short handles. Depending on the design, they can feel very classic or surprisingly cool.

This is also one of those trends that feels like an actual shift in silhouette rather than a tiny detail being declared a trend.

After years of shoulder bags dominating, a substantial top-handle bag suddenly feels fresh again.

Designer bags to know: Loewe Amazona 180, Miu Miu Beau, Celine Doctor Pouch, Victoria Beckham Victoria Doctor Bag

3. Bowling Bags

Bowling bags are right there with doctor bags, although they tend to feel a little sportier and more early-2000s.

The long shape, rounded edges and double handles are instantly recognizable.

And because Y2K fashion has moved beyond just butterfly tops and low-rise jeans, it makes sense that we're now getting deeper into the accessories from that era too.

Designer bowling bags feel especially right for 2027 because they're practical without looking boring.

4. East-West Bags

East-west bags aren't going anywhere yet.

These are the long, horizontal bags that have been getting skinnier, wider and more exaggerated over the past few seasons.

I especially like this trend in designer bags because the proportions make even a really simple bag look interesting.

You don't necessarily need a giant logo or a bunch of hardware when the shape itself is the statement.

Expect the silhouette to keep evolving in 2027 rather than suddenly disappearing.

5. Oversized Designer Bags

The tiny bag era has officially loosened its grip on us.

Big bags are back, and designer versions are getting BIG.

We're talking shoulder bags and totes that can actually fit a laptop, water bottle, makeup bag, sunglasses and the other 47 things somehow living at the bottom of your purse.

The difference between these and the giant totes of years past is that the newer versions feel intentionally oversized. The scale is part of the look.

Some are so big that they almost overwhelm the outfit—and that's kind of the point.

6. Slouchy Luxury Bags

On the complete opposite end of the structured doctor bag trend, we're also seeing designer bags get softer and slouchier.

This is less pristine, perfectly shaped leather and more relaxed bags that collapse a little when you set them down.

They look especially good tucked under your arm or carried without trying to perfectly arrange them.

There's something very cool about an expensive bag looking slightly undone.

7. Worn-In Leather

This might be one of my favorite shifts happening in designer bags.

Not every expensive leather bag needs to look like it has never been touched by human hands.

Worn-in leather, distressed finishes and bags that develop more character as they're carried are becoming part of the appeal.

It gives designer bags a little more personality and makes them feel less precious.

A bag you actually want to carry every day instead of keeping stuffed with tissue paper in its dust bag? Revolutionary.

8. Croc-Embossed Bags

Croc-embossed leather is going to be everywhere in designer bags.

It works particularly well with the more structured shapes we're seeing right now—top handles, doctor bags, east-west bags and ladylike shoulder bags.

Black and deep brown are obviously the classics, but burgundy, navy and unexpected brighter colors make croc feel much more current.

It's one of the easiest ways for a relatively simple bag shape to suddenly have a lot more impact.

9. Suede Designer Bags

Suede has already made a major comeback, and I don't see designer bags abandoning it anytime soon.

Large suede totes and slouchy shoulder bags have that relaxed, slightly '70s feel that works so well with the direction fashion is going.

Chocolate brown will obviously continue to be big, but I wouldn't be surprised to see more color enter the mix too.

Burgundy, olive, navy and even brighter suede bags all feel possible for 2027.

10. Oversized Clutches

Clutches aren't just for weddings and fancy dinners anymore.

The oversized clutch has been creeping back into everyday fashion, and I think we're going to see a lot more of it in 2027.

These are big enough to actually hold your stuff and are meant to be tucked under your arm as part of the outfit.

Soft leather versions especially have that effortless cool-girl thing going for them.

Yes, carrying a bag with no strap is objectively less convenient.

Will that stop us? Obviously not.

Designer bags to know: Bottega Veneta Andiamo Clutch, Loewe Flamenco Clutch

11. Vanity Case Bags

Another vintage-inspired shape making its way back into designer collections is the vanity case.

These tend to be boxier, structured and usually zip around the top, basically borrowing the shape of old-school travel beauty cases.

They're a fun alternative to the same shoulder bag silhouettes we've been seeing forever.

And because the shape is so distinctive, even a really minimal version still stands out.

Designer bags to know: Chanel Vanity Case, Saint Laurent Gaby Vanity Bag, Bottega Veneta Bang Bang Vanity Bag

12. Chain Handles Are Back

After years of super minimal hardware, chains are becoming noticeable again.

And not just the classic delicate chain strap.

We're seeing chunkier chains, decorative chain handles and hardware that becomes a major part of the bag itself.

This fits into the bigger move away from bags being completely anonymous.

Designer bags are allowed to look designer again.

Designer bags to know: Gucci Dionysus, Givenchy Antigona Chain, LOEWE Ola Shoulder Bag

13. Bag Jewelry

Bag charms opened the door, and now bags themselves are basically wearing jewelry.

Chains, charms, pendants and decorative hardware are becoming more integrated into the actual design instead of feeling like something you added afterward.

Some bags almost look accessorized before you've even put anything on them.

I think this is going to keep getting more elaborate in 2027.

Designer bags to know: LOEWE Ola Shoulder Bag, embellished Miu Miu bags, charm-heavy Balenciaga styles

14. Logo Mania

Quiet luxury isn't dead, but logos are definitely allowed out of hiding again.

I don't necessarily think we're going straight back to covering every square inch of a bag in monograms—although honestly, some designers probably will.

Instead, we're seeing logos become part of the design again through hardware, clasps, chains and updated versions of recognizable house codes.

After several years of almost aggressively anonymous luxury, a little logo suddenly feels fun again.

Designer bags to know: Gucci Dionysus, Gucci Jackie, Valentino VLogo bags, Gucci GG Monogram bags

15. Cobalt Blue Bags

If there's one brighter color I would watch in designer bags for 2027, it's cobalt blue.

We've spent several seasons swimming in burgundy, chocolate brown and other deep neutrals, so a saturated blue feels like a pretty major change.

And on a bag, you don't need much else.

A cobalt designer bag with an otherwise simple outfit is enough to make the entire thing feel current.

16. Boston Bags

Boston bags are another classic silhouette that's suddenly looking very current again.

They're similar to bowling bags, but usually a little more structured and traditional, with rounded corners, two top handles and that recognizable rectangular shape.

It's the kind of bag that has existed forever, which is exactly why it works with the bigger archival revival happening in designer fashion right now.

And unlike some of the micro bag trends we've had over the past few years, this one is actually practical.

I could see Boston bags becoming one of those shapes that suddenly feels like it's everywhere in 2027.

What Designer Bags Will Be Trending in 2027?

If I had to sum up designer bag trends for 2027 in one word, it would be personality.

They're longer. Bigger. Slouchier. More worn-in. Covered in hardware. Pulled from an archive. Made in a color you can't ignore.

And that's what makes the designer bag trends coming into 2027 so much more interesting.

There's finally room for your bag to be the thing that makes the outfit again.
