There are SO many good wedding guest dress trends happening for 2027, and a lot of them are actually really wearable.

We're seeing dramatic draping, asymmetrical silhouettes, interesting waistlines, polka dots, sheer details and plenty of '90s influence.

Whether you're shopping for a spring garden wedding, a black tie wedding or something somewhere in between, these are the 2027 wedding guest dress trends I think we're going to see everywhere.

How to Look Appropriate but Chic at a Black Tie Event

What The Heck To Wear To a Bridal Shower (For Guests!)

1. Cape Detail Dresses

Cape details are one of the prettiest wedding guest dress trends I'm seeing for 2027.

Some dresses have a full cape attached at the shoulders, while others have softer cape-like panels that drape down the back or over one shoulder. We're also seeing detachable versions, which I LOVE because you can completely change the look halfway through the night.

This trend works especially well for black tie weddings because you get that little bit of drama without needing a dress covered in sequins or embellishments.

I also love a cape with a really simple column dress. The dress itself can be super minimal and the cape basically does all the work.

2. Draped Dresses

Draping is probably one of my favorite trends happening right now because it's one of those details that makes a relatively simple dress look SO much better.

We're seeing dresses gathered and draped around the hips, waist and neckline instead of dresses just falling completely straight.

It's subtle, but it makes the entire silhouette feel more intentional.

Grecian-style draping, gathered waists and details that twist or wrap around the body are all really good ways to wear this one.

This is also one of the easiest 2027 wedding guest dress trends to wear without feeling overly trendy.

3. Drop Waist Dresses

Drop waists aren't going anywhere.

After being basically nonexistent for years, they started creeping back into fashion and now they're making their way into formalwear too.

Instead of the skirt beginning right at your natural waist, the waistline extends lower toward the hips before opening into the skirt.

It gives dresses that long, elongated shape that feels very current right now.

You'll see this on everything from fitted maxi dresses to fuller, more dramatic gowns.

4. Asymmetrical Dresses

Perfectly symmetrical dresses are getting some competition in 2027.

One-shoulder necklines are part of this, but the trend goes way beyond that.

We're seeing dresses with asymmetrical draping, angled hems, uneven necklines and skirts that gather toward one side.

I LOVE this because you can take an otherwise extremely simple dress and suddenly it looks way more expensive and interesting.

5. Polka Dot Dresses

Polka dots are having a major comeback, and I actually think weddings are one of the best places to wear them.

Especially black and white polka dots.

They have that slightly vintage, romantic vibe without feeling costume-y, and they're way more interesting than another floral wedding guest dress.

I would look for longer midi or maxi silhouettes to keep the print feeling modern.

6. Halter Neck Dresses

Halter necklines are officially back.

The 2027 version feels very '90s in the best possible way, especially when paired with a long, simple silhouette.

We're also seeing higher halter necklines with completely open backs, which I LOVE for summer weddings.

It's sexy without having to do a plunging neckline or a super tight dress.

7. Sheer Dresses

Okay, obviously there is a right and wrong way to do this at a wedding.

We're not showing up in underwear and a completely transparent dress.

The wedding guest version of the sheer trend is much more subtle.

Sheer sleeves, skirts with built-in mini linings, mesh overlays and strategically placed sheer panels give you the effect without feeling completely naked at someone else's wedding.

It's also a really good way to make a longer dress feel a little lighter for spring and summer.

8. Art Deco Inspired Dresses

The 1920s influence happening in fashion right now is SO good for wedding guest outfits.

Beading, fringe, geometric embellishments and dropped waists can all give a dress that slightly vintage eveningwear feel.

The key here is not doing every single element at once.

A beaded midi dress with a simple silhouette? Gorgeous.

A fringed dress with minimal accessories? Also gorgeous.

Full Gatsby costume with a feather headband? Maybe leave that one at home.

9. Bubble Hem Dresses

Bubble hems are sticking around for 2027, but they're moving beyond the little bubble mini dresses we've been seeing everywhere.

We're starting to see the silhouette translated into midi and even full-length dresses, which makes it much more wearable for weddings.

I especially like a bubble hem when the rest of the dress is really simple.

It gives you that dramatic shape without needing a ton of embellishment.

10. Scarf Detail Dresses

The skinny scarf trend has officially made its way into dresses, and I am very into it.

These dresses usually have a long scarf attached at the neckline that can hang down the back, wrap around the neck or drape over one shoulder.

It's such a small detail, but it makes a basic dress look instantly cooler.

This is especially good if you're someone who usually gravitates toward simple solid-color dresses but still wants something that feels current.

11. Floral Appliqué Dresses

We're moving from printed flowers to actual 3D flowers.

Rosettes, oversized floral appliqués and dimensional floral details are going to be everywhere on occasion dresses.

And I actually like these SO much more than another basic floral print.

You can go really subtle with one flower at the neckline or shoulder, or fully commit with little appliqués covering the entire dress.

Either way, this is going to be a big one for spring and summer weddings.

12. Basque Waist Dresses

Basque waists are going to be a BIG wedding guest dress trend in 2027.

Instead of the waistline going straight across, it dips down into a V shape at the center, which gives the dress that really pretty corset-inspired look.

We've already been seeing basque waists all over bridal fashion, but now they're making their way into wedding guest dresses too.

I especially love them with a fitted bodice and fuller skirt because it gives you that dramatic shape without the dress feeling overly formal.

You'll also see them on sleeker maxi dresses if you want something a little less princess-y.

This is one of those trends that feels very 2027 but is still pretty enough that you're not going to look back at photos and wonder what the hell you were wearing.

13. Fringe Dresses

Fringe is another trend that makes SO much sense for wedding guest dressing.

It moves when you walk. It moves when you dance. It instantly makes a dress feel more fun.

The newer versions feel less boho festival and more vintage eveningwear, which is exactly what you want here.

Look for fringe along the hemline, layered fringe skirts or subtle fringe details rather than the full-on flapper costume situation.

14. Minimal '90s Dresses

On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, super simple '90s dresses are also coming back.

Spaghetti straps, square necklines, column silhouettes and very minimal detailing are all part of the look.

Basically the kind of dress Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy would have worn to a wedding.

These are perfect if you're not into all the appliqués and dramatic details happening right now.

Just make sure the fit is GOOD because when a dress is this simple, there's really nowhere for bad tailoring to hide.

15. Opera Gloves

Okay, technically not a dress trend, but opera gloves are becoming such a big part of occasion dressing that they deserve a spot on this list.

We're seeing long gloves paired with everything from strapless gowns to simple column dresses, and I LOVE how much they can change the entire look.

Sheer and lace gloves feel especially good for spring and summer, while satin and velvet make more sense for a formal fall or winter wedding.

This is definitely one of the more statement-making trends on this list, but for a black tie wedding? So good.

And if you're wearing a really simple dress, adding opera gloves is such an easy way to make the whole outfit feel very 2027.

The Biggest Wedding Guest Dress Trends for 2027

There isn't really one single look defining wedding guest dresses for 2027, which is probably my favorite thing about these trends.

You can go romantic with floral appliqués or a draped dress, super minimal with a '90s-inspired column dress, or lean into some of the more statement-making trends like fringe, bubble hems or an Art Deco-inspired dress.

And if you want something that falls somewhere in the middle, details like a basque waist, scarf neckline, cape or asymmetrical silhouette are an easy way to make a dress feel very 2027 without going overboard.

Basically, you have options. And considering how many weddings some of us end up attending in a single year, I'll take them.
