20 Fashion Trends That Are On Their Way Out for 2027
I love talking about upcoming fashion trends, but honestly? Talking about the trends that are on their way OUT might be even more fun.
And before anyone gets mad at me, obviously you can wear whatever you want. If you love something on this list, keep wearing it. I certainly don't throw out my entire closet every January because the trend cycle has decided we're onto something new.
But fashion moves fast. And after watching some of these trends absolutely dominate for the past few years, I think we're getting to the point where they're either becoming oversaturated, evolving into something new, or just starting to feel a little tired.
Some of these I'm very confident about. Some are predictions that could come back to haunt me.
So let's get into the fashion trends I think are on their way out as we head into 2027.
(Want the trends that are going to be IN for 2027? Check out this post here)
1. Adidas Sambas
I knew this day was coming.
Sambas have had an absolutely insane run. For a while there, you couldn't scroll Pinterest or Instagram without seeing them paired with jeans, trousers, leggings, skirts, dresses... literally everything.
And I still think they're cute! That's not really the issue.
They've just become SO common that they don't feel particularly fresh anymore.
We're already seeing people branch out into other slim sneakers and more unexpected shoe choices, and I think that will continue into 2027.
If you already own Sambas, obviously I'm not saying you need to stop wearing them. But if you're buying a new pair of sneakers specifically because you want something that feels current going into 2027, I probably wouldn't make Sambas my first choice.
2. Quiet Luxury and Old Money Cosplay
Okay. I am ready for us to move on from pretending everyone is summering in the Hamptons.
Quiet luxury started out as a shift toward really beautiful basics, classic pieces and less obvious branding. That part I actually love.
Then the internet got ahold of it.
Suddenly every outfit needed beige trousers, a striped sweater over the shoulders, loafers and a structured handbag so we could cosplay as someone's incredibly wealthy granddaughter.
Classic style isn't going anywhere. Neither are great basics.
But the super specific internet version of "old money" already feels like it's losing some steam, and I think 2027 fashion will be much more interested in personality than looking generically expensive.
3. Wide-Leg Jeans Being THE Jeans
Before you come for me, I am NOT saying wide-leg jeans are suddenly going to be ugly in 2027.
I'm saying they're not going to be the automatic answer anymore.
For the past few years, wide-leg denim has completely dominated. Walk into basically any store and half the denim section is some variation of a high-rise or mid-rise wide-leg jean.
But denim silhouettes are starting to get much more interesting again.
We're seeing straight legs, relaxed fits, flares, bootcuts and more exaggerated shapes all competing for attention.
I actually think this is a good thing. Instead of there being one pair of jeans everyone is supposed to own, we're heading back toward choosing denim based on the outfit and what actually looks good on you.
4. Pleated Tennis Skirts
The little pleated tennis skirt has been hanging on for a LONG time.
Between tenniscore, preppy fashion and the whole country club aesthetic, these have been styled with everything from sweatshirts and sneakers to cardigans and loafers.
And I think we've finally gotten just about everything we can get out of them.
Pleated skirts themselves aren't disappearing, but the super short athletic tennis skirt as an everyday fashion piece feels very tied to this particular era.
5. Boxer Shorts as Pants
I know some of you are going to fight me on this one.
Boxer shorts somehow went from something you stole from your boyfriend to an actual fashion staple.
Striped boxers with an oversized tee. Boxers with a tank and Sambas. Boxers with a sweater. Boxers with loafers.
They were EVERYWHERE.
And while I understand the appeal because they're obviously comfortable, this feels like exactly the kind of trend we'll look back at in a few years and immediately know when the photo was taken.
I'm predicting we'll see longer, more structured shorts taking their place.
6. Leopard Print Overload
Leopard print itself is not out.
I repeat: leopard print is not out.
It's one of those prints that disappears for a minute and then comes roaring back every few years, and I will absolutely continue wearing it.
What I think we're moving away from is leopard print EVERYTHING.
Leopard jeans. Leopard skirts. Leopard sneakers. Leopard bags. Leopard coats.
There was a point where adding leopard print was basically the answer to every outfit, and whenever a trend reaches that level of saturation, you know the pendulum is eventually going to swing the other way.
Keep your leopard. Maybe just don't make your entire personality leopard.
7. Labubus
This one feels inevitable.
Labubus went from cute little collectible to being attached to seemingly every handbag on the internet at lightning speed.
And trends that explode that quickly tend to disappear just as quickly.
Collectibles will obviously always have their fans, but I don't think having a Labubu dangling from your designer handbag is going to carry the same cool factor into 2027.
This is one of those trends I think will VERY specifically date photos from this era.
8. Silver Metallic Everything
Metallics aren't disappearing.
But the silver-everything moment? I think we're reaching the end.
Silver pants, silver boots, silver ballet flats, silver handbags. For a while, metallic silver became the easy way to make an otherwise basic outfit feel trendy.
I think we'll still see metallic details, but probably in a less predictable way.
Basically, silver is going back to being a fun option instead of a requirement.
9. Matching Vest and Trouser Sets
Remember when suddenly everyone looked like they were heading to a very fashionable business lunch?
The matching vest and trouser set had a HUGE moment, and I actually loved it when it first came around.
But this one is starting to feel very tied to the 2024-2025 era.
Tailoring is absolutely sticking around. I just think it's going to feel less "matching set" and more styled, layered and individual.
10. Cargo Pants
Cargo pants have officially completed another trend cycle.
They came back with the whole Y2K revival, got progressively baggier, turned into parachute pants and eventually became a staple at basically every fast-fashion retailer.
And now I think we're ready to move along.
Utility details will always pop back up, but the oversized cargo pant as one of the main casual pant options feels like it's fading.
11. Platform Uggs
This one might hurt.
Classic Uggs have survived approximately 47 different trend cycles at this point, so I'm absolutely not declaring Uggs dead.
I'm specifically talking about the super chunky platform versions.
They were fun because they made Uggs feel new again, but once every mall brand starts making its own version of something, we're usually getting pretty close to peak saturation.
I think we'll see people gravitate back toward simpler Ugg silhouettes and other cozy shoes instead.
12. Tomato Girl, Strawberry Girl and Every Other Random Girl Aesthetic
Please. We have run out of girls.
Tomato Girl. Strawberry Girl. Clean Girl. Coastal Grandmother. Mob Wife. Office Siren.
At some point we apparently decided every outfit needed to belong to a hyper-specific aesthetic with its own name.
And I think people are getting tired of it.
Fashion feels like it's moving toward mixing things together again instead of trying to perfectly fit into one Pinterest board.
Hopefully in 2027 we can just... wear an outfit.
13. Sheer Skirts
I like sheer details.
I do not need to see everyone's underwear at brunch.
The fully sheer skirt with briefs underneath has had a major fashion moment, especially paired with oversized sweaters, blazers and jackets.
It looks cool editorially.
In real life? Slightly more complicated.
I think we'll continue seeing sheer fabrics used as details and layers, but the completely transparent skirt is one of those trends that feels destined for a relatively short lifespan.
14. Polka Dot Overload
Polka dots are having A MOMENT.
And whenever I suddenly see the exact same print at every single retailer, my brain immediately starts wondering how much longer we have.
Polka dots themselves are obviously classic. They're never truly going away.
But the current polka-dot-everything obsession is probably going to cool off pretty quickly.
If you love the print, keep it. I just wouldn't build my entire 2027 wardrobe around it.
15. Butter Yellow
Butter yellow was cute.
Then butter yellow was everywhere.
Dresses. Sweaters. Bags. Shoes. Matching sets. Nails. Home decor.
We really committed.
I don't think yellow itself is going anywhere, but this extremely specific pale creamy shade has become so associated with the current trend cycle that I think we'll be ready for something different by 2027.
Color trends move especially quickly, and butter yellow has already had a very good run.
16. Stanley Cups as Fashion Accessories
There was a period where Stanley cups stopped being water bottles and became accessories.
You needed the right color. Then the limited-edition color. Then the little accessories for your Stanley. Then apparently your giant water cup needed to coordinate with your outfit.
I am all for hydration.
But the status-symbol water bottle thing feels like it's already cooling off.
Stanleys will obviously still exist. People who love them will continue using them.
I just don't think we're going to care quite as much about what emotional-support tumbler someone is carrying in 2027.
17. Middle Parts
Yes, I know this is technically a hair trend.
I'm including it anyway.
After millennials spent years being informed that our beloved side parts were aging us approximately 700 years, I have some news.
The middle part's reign may finally be loosening its grip.
We're already seeing softer parts, off-center parts and side parts creeping back in.
Does this mean you need to dramatically flip your hair to one side tomorrow morning?
No.
But I do think the era where the middle part was basically the ONLY acceptable way to wear your hair is ending.
Justice.
18. Crew Socks as Part of the Outfit
Obviously crew socks aren't going anywhere.
People will continue owning socks in 2027.
I'm talking about the very specific styling formula we've been seeing everywhere: white crew socks intentionally pulled up with leggings, loafers, sneakers, mini skirts and basically every casual outfit imaginable.
At some point, something goes from looking fresh to becoming the thing everyone does.
And I think we're getting there.
We'll probably start seeing more variety again with ankle socks, no-show socks, taller socks and different hosiery.
Which means yes, millennials may eventually be vindicated on this one too.
19. The Coquette Aesthetic
Bows had a good run.
The whole coquette aesthetic brought us ribbons, lace, ballet flats, tiny cardigans, pearls and bows attached to absolutely anything that would sit still long enough.
And while feminine fashion isn't going anywhere, the super literal version of coquette already feels like it's reaching the end of its trend cycle.
I think romantic details will stick around, but they'll be mixed into outfits rather than worn head-to-toe.
You can keep your bows. We just don't need seven of them on one outfit.
20. Fast Fashion and Constant Microtrend Consumption
This one is bigger than a specific outfit.
I think people are getting exhausted.
The trend cycle has become SO fast that we're being told we need a completely different wardrobe every few months.
One minute everyone needs a leopard skirt. Then boxer shorts. Then a barn jacket. Then butter yellow. Then whatever TikTok decides we're supposed to buy next.
And aside from the environmental issues with that level of consumption, it's just not realistic.
I think we're going to see more people become selective about trends instead of trying to participate in every single one.
So What WILL Be In Style in 2027?
If there's one thing connecting most of the trends on this list, it's oversaturation.
A lot of these aren't suddenly becoming ugly. We just saw SO much of them that they stopped feeling interesting.
And that's actually what I'm most excited about heading into 2027.
Fashion has spent the past few years cycling through incredibly specific aesthetics and viral pieces at a ridiculous speed. I think we're starting to move toward a point where personal style matters more again.
Wear the wide-leg jeans if they're your favorite jeans.
Keep wearing leopard if leopard has always been your thing.
And please continue using your Stanley if you already spent $45 on a water bottle.
You don't need to stop wearing something just because the internet decided the trend is over.
But if you're wondering which of today's biggest trends might start looking a little dated as we head into 2027?
These are the ones I'd put my money on.
