The Trendy But Classic Winter Capsule Wardrobe (2025/2026)
This year I’ve completely fallen in love with the idea of building a capsule wardrobe. (You may have seen my Spring, Summer, and Fall capsules!) For years I leaned toward quantity over quality, but those days are behind me.
With winter right around the corner, I’m excited to share my ultimate Winter capsule wardrobe to help you pull together endless cozy and stylish outfits with just a handful of essential pieces this season!
How to Transition to a Capsule Wardrobe (Even If You Love to Shop!)
If you’re craving a simpler closet, want to cut back on spending, and avoid letting clothes go to waste, a capsule wardrobe might be exactly what you need. My best advice is to keep it straightforward, and stick to mostly neutral tones, but don’t forget to make it fun and true to your own style.
Since I genuinely love shopping, following trends, and putting outfits together, slowing down my shopping habit hasn’t been easy. One thing that helps is keeping my core wardrobe minimal while still indulging my love of fashion through clothing rental services. I’ve tried Nuuly, Rent the Runway, and FashionPass over the years and have had great experiences with all of them!
At the end of the day, the key is knowing which basics you already own, identifying the essentials you still need, and then mixing in a few standout pieces with personality that can pair effortlessly with everything else in your capsule.
So her is my ultimate Winter 2025 capsule wardrobe to give you some inspiration for your own!

My Trendy But Classic Winter 2025/2026 Capsule Wardrobe
Winter Capsule Wardrobe Bottoms
Beige Trousers- a trendy yet classic closet staple that you can style with so many things! And it’s easy to dress it up or down. (Check out my post on how to style trousers if you need some ideas)
Grey Trousers- grey trousers are a great staple that also give a winter vibe and are easy to style and mix and match.
Black Jeans- A great pair of black jeans is something I am constantly defaulting to in the winter, so it had to be in the capsule. So many outfit possibilities! (Check out my post on how to style black jeans if you need some ideas)
Blue Jeans- Honestly, you can go with just about any pair of jeans that fits your style, but for winter I lean toward a medium to dark wash in a wide leg silhouette.
Barrel Jeans- For the trendy factor! Barrel jeans are a fun silhouette to add that will still go with all of the items in your capsule. Choose a wash different than your more classic style blue jeans in your closet for variety. (Check out my post on how to style barrel jeans if you need some ideas)
Sheer Black Tights- If you like to get more life out of your skirts and dresses (I know I do!) then black sheer tights will help you do that while keeping you warm and looking chic.
Menswear Pleated Mini Skort- Winter-y vibes perfect for if you have date nights, parties, dinner with friends, etc on the calendar this winter! Pair with tights and you’re set!
Leather Shorts- Another great staple for if you’re sick of wearing pants on repeat and want to mix it up but still look trendy. Again, tights will help you to carry these through the cold winter weather.
Winter Capsule Wardrobe Tops
Denim Shirt- One of the most versatile tops you can own, and it works beautifully in winter too. Layer it over a tee, button it up on its own, or even throw it on over a dress. It pairs seamlessly with skirts, pants, and just about anything else, making it a true wardrobe staple. (If you need inspiration, check out my post on how to style denim shirts!)
Striped Sweater- A timeless piece that always looks chic. A classic striped knit is perfect for those casual winter days when you want to look effortlessly put together without overthinking it.
Oversized Turtleneck Sweater- This cozy favorite is a must for the season. It’s endlessly versatile, pairing with every bottom in a capsule, and you’ll find yourself reaching for it again and again whether you’re dressing it up or keeping things casual.
White Long Sleeve Top- A simple, clean base layer that works on its own or under jackets, blazers, and chunky knits. White goes with everything, so it’s one of those essentials you’ll wear constantly.
Cardigans- Cardigans are still having a major moment this winter. They’re easy to throw on, and they’re super cozy. I chose one in a bold red for a little seasonal pop, and a classic grey. The beauty of cardigans is that you can go classic, colorful, or trendy depending on your personal style. (Need styling tips? I’ve got a full post on how to wear cardigans!)
Black Turtleneck- An absolute classic! Can be worn on it’s own or as an extra layer for warmth this winter. Super versatile and neccessary.
Beige Sweater- A no brainer because a beige sweater is one of those basics you can wear with most anything.
Button Front Top- I love this trend because it’s flattering, fresh, and it’s just an elevated basic that pairs well with pretty much everything. I went with a classic black
Winter Capsule Wardrobe Outerwear
Wool Coat- A long wool coat is the perfect outerwear staple that can take you from everyday errands to out to dinner. It’s versatile, stylish and will keep you warm.
Puffer Coat- A winter must for those extra winter weather-y days. If there’s snow on the ground, you’re going to want something weather-proof, yet stylish.
Scarf Coat- The scarf coat is a vibe this winter and it makes your outfit instantly trendy! Picking a nice neutral color means it will go with most other items in your capsule.
Toggle Coat- For an edgier vibe that still goes with everything. These often come in a shearling or faux fur material and are perfect for achieving a cool girl aesthetic this winter.
Winter Capsule Wardrobe Dresses
Mini Sweater Dress- You don’t need much in the way of dresses for winter because, well, it’s freezing! But a nice cozy mini sweater dress in a neutral color is something you can easily throw on that is comfy, cozy and perfect for winter weather. Pair with tights or boots and you’re set! (If you need ideas, check out my post on how to style sweater dresses)
Maxi Long Sleeve Ribbed Dress- Sexy, simple and perfect for when you need to get a little dressed up this winter. You can layer it under a sweater easily too! (Check out my post on how to layer a dress under a sweater)
