2027 Handbag Trends That Are About to Be Everywhere
I swear handbags are getting fun again.
For a while there, everything was either a teeny tiny shoulder bag that held absolutely nothing or a very serious, very expensive-looking quiet luxury bag.
And while I still love a simple bag, I am VERY ready for a little more personality.
That is exactly where the 2027 handbag trends seem to be heading.
We're getting bigger bags, slouchier shapes, worn-in leather, weird silhouettes, more hardware and even logos again.
Basically, bags are starting to look a little less perfect and a lot more interesting.
And honestly? I love it.
Here are the 2027 handbag trends I think we're about to see everywhere.
The Biggest Handbag Trends for 2027
1. East-West Bags
East-west bags have been slowly taking over for a while now, and they are absolutely not going anywhere yet.
If anything, I think we're going to see even MORE of them in 2027.
These are those really long, horizontal bags that sit right underneath your arm.
And something about the shape just makes an outfit look cooler.
The newer versions also seem to be getting a little bigger, which I am very much here for.
Give me the cute trendy bag that can also hold my actual phone.
2. Oversized Slouchy Bags
Okay THIS is a handbag trend I can get behind.
The giant slouchy bag is back.
Not the super stiff, enormous work totes we were all lugging around years ago.
These are softer, slouchier and way more relaxed.
They almost look better when they're half collapsed and thrown over your shoulder.
And after years of tiny bags, I am honestly thrilled to have somewhere to put all my crap again.
3. Doctor Bags
Doctor bags are having a moment again, and I think they're going to get even bigger in 2027.
They have that slightly vintage shape with the short handles, structured bottom and wider opening at the top.
But I definitely don't mean a super prim little handbag that looks like something your grandma carried.
The ones I'm loving are bigger, softer and a little slouchier.
Especially in dark brown leather or suede.
So good.
4. Suede Bags
If you bought a suede bag recently, keep it out.
Suede is definitely sticking around.
We've already been seeing it everywhere, especially in brown, but I think it's becoming less of a seasonal little trend and more of a major handbag look.
And honestly, suede just makes a bag look good.
Give me an oversized chocolate brown suede bag with jeans and a sweater and I need basically nothing else happening with the outfit.
I'm also loving burgundy, camel and olive here.
5. Croc-Embossed Bags
This is one I think we're going to see a LOT more of.
Croc-embossed bags are creeping back in, and they feel so different after years of super plain leather bags.
The trick is definitely the shape.
I don't want a croc bag that feels stuffy or overly fancy.
Put it on a long east-west bag, a slouchy clutch or a cool shoulder bag and suddenly it feels completely different.
I especially love a really dark brown or almost-black croc right now.
6. Oversized Slouchy Clutches
I know what you're thinking.
A clutch???
But no. Not the tiny envelope clutch you carried to every wedding in 2011.
These are HUGE.
Soft, slouchy, oversized clutches that basically look like you grabbed a giant leather pouch and tucked it under your arm.
And we're wearing them during the day.
This is definitely not the most practical handbag trend on this list, but it looks SO good with an oversized coat or a really simple jeans outfit.
I am into it.
7. Animal Print Bags
Animal print is still going strong, and I actually think handbags are one of the easiest ways to wear it.
Especially if you're someone who looks at a leopard coat and thinks absolutely not.
A leopard bag?
Way easier.
Throw it on with jeans, a white tee and a black jacket and suddenly the outfit is way more interesting.
Leopard is obviously the big one, but I'm also watching snakeskin, zebra and even cow print.
8. Built-In Bag Jewelry
Okay, I think we may finally be calming down with the 47 random things hanging off one handbag.
Bag charms were fun.
We had a good run.
But I think we're moving toward bags where the jewelry is actually built into the design instead.
Big metal rings, chains, buckles, sculptural handles, cool clasps.
Basically, the bag itself has enough going on that you don't need to hang an entire keychain collection off of it.
I like this SO much better.
9. Half-Moon Bags
Crescent bags aren't completely disappearing.
They're just getting an upgrade.
The newer versions I'm seeing feel more like an actual half-moon shape instead of the super casual crescent bags we've been wearing for the last few years.
They're cleaner, a little more structured and almost sculptural.
I especially like these when the curve is really exaggerated.
It's still an easy everyday bag, but it feels newer.
10. Burgundy Bags
If you are sick of buying another black or brown bag, burgundy is your answer.
This color has been hanging around for a while now, and I really don't think we're done with it.
It's dark enough that you can basically treat it like a neutral, but it makes an outfit so much more interesting.
Black coat? Burgundy bag.
Gray sweater? Burgundy bag.
Denim? Burgundy bag.
Chocolate brown? Also weirdly good with burgundy.
It's one of those colors that sounds harder to wear than it actually is.
11. Bowler Bags
Bowler bags are back.
And yes, we're dipping back into the early 2000s again.
These have that longer shape with a rounded top and two shorter handles, and they feel VERY different from all of the crescent bags we've been seeing everywhere.
I especially love them when they look a little vintage.
Dark brown leather, suede, burgundy, maybe a little hardware.
This is one of those trends that I think is going to look weird to some people at first and then six months later everyone is carrying one.
12. Asymmetrical Bags
Okay, handbags are getting weird.
In a good way.
Instead of everything being perfectly symmetrical, we're seeing bags with slanted tops, off-center handles, uneven shapes and silhouettes that almost look folded or twisted.
And I LOVE this with a really basic outfit.
You don't need to do anything else.
Jeans.
White tee.
Cool weird bag.
Done.
This feels like one of those trends that makes your whole outfit look more current without actually changing the way you dress.
13. Moto Satchels
I have been waiting for this one.
Enter the moto satchel.
Slouchy leather, buckles, zippers, studs, pockets, hardware.
Basically the exact opposite of the super minimal quiet luxury bags we've been carrying.
And I think that's why they suddenly look so good again.
I want these to look a little beat up too.
This is NOT the bag I want sitting perfectly upright on a shelf looking untouched.
The more lived-in it looks, the better.
14. Logo Mania
I think quiet luxury might finally be loosening its grip on us.
Not disappearing completely.
But loosening.
Because logos are definitely starting to feel interesting again.
Monograms, signature prints, recognizable hardware and bags where you can actually tell who made them are all creeping back in.
And I don't necessarily mean we're going straight back to enormous logos plastered across everything.
But the whole “if you know, you know” thing has been going strong for a WHILE.
I think we're ready to show off a little again.
What Handbags Are Going Out of Style in 2027?
First of all, I'm never going to tell you to throw away a perfectly good bag because TikTok decided it isn't cool anymore.
If you love it, wear it.
But if we're talking strictly about where handbag trends are moving, I think the super tiny micro bags are losing steam.
Same with the really quilted bags that were like peak fashion a few years back.
I’m also think the Lululemon belt bag era is finally coming to a close.
But some bags really are just classic, and again if you love it- that’s all that matters!
What Handbag Should You Buy for 2027?
If you're going to buy one new bag, I wouldn't go searching for the trendiest, weirdest thing you can possibly find.
I'd look for a bag that hits a couple of these trends at once.
Maybe it's a burgundy east-west bag.
A giant suede doctor bag.
A croc-embossed bowling bag.
That's where I think these trends become way more wearable.
Because you don't need 15 new handbags for 2027. (I can be the angel on your shoulder lol!)
You just need one really good one that makes everything else you're already wearing look better.
And THAT is the kind of trend I can justify.
