2027 Sneaker Trends That Are Going to Dominate

For 2027, sneakers are getting way more interesting again, and I am VERY here for it.

After years of every trendy sneaker basically being some variation of a chunky white shoe, we're finally getting more options. Slim sneakers, ballet-inspired styles, color, weird little retro shapes...there's actually some personality happening again.

A lot of these trends are already starting to pop up in 2026, which is usually a pretty good indication of what we're going to see everywhere in 2027.

So if you're wondering which sneakers are about to take over in 2027, these are the ones I'd have on your radar. Some are a duh and others are hot takes that I am predicting will be huge!

Ultra-Slim Sneakers

If there's one sneaker trend I feel VERY confident about for 2027, it's this one.

Sneakers are getting skinnier.

Think super low-profile shapes, barely-there soles, and sneakers that sit really close to your foot instead of having a giant chunky sole underneath them.

The Puma Speedcat is probably the most obvious example right now, but this shape is showing up everywhere.

And honestly, I get it.

They make even a basic jeans + tee outfit feel a little cooler and more current without trying too hard.

I especially love them with straight-leg jeans, ankle-length pants, maxi skirts, or even trousers.

If you've spent the last few years wearing chunky sneakers, just keep in mind that your pants might hit totally differently with these. Jeans that were the perfect length with a thicker sneaker can suddenly feel way too long.

Ballet Sneakers

Ballet sneakers sounded slightly unhinged when they first started popping up, and now somehow they make perfect sense.

They're basically what happens when the ballet flat trend and sneaker trend have a baby.

Some lean more sneaker. Some are basically ballet flats with a sneaker sole. And I think we're going to see even more versions in 2027 with satin, straps, laces, and really delicate uppers.

Personally, I like these best when the rest of the outfit isn't super girly.

Loose jeans + a basic tee + ballet sneakers? So cute.

A simple skirt + oversized sweater? Also yes.

I would NOT personally pair them with a bunch of bows and ballet-inspired pieces unless that's really your thing. I like the shoe being the unexpected part of the outfit.

Retro Track Sneakers

This feels like the sportier version of the ultra-slim sneaker trend.

We're moving away from bulky court sneakers and toward these really lightweight, old-school track sneakers with nylon, suede, stripes, and super thin soles.

The Puma H-Street is a good example of where this is going.

I actually really like these with outfits that aren't sporty at all.

Think trousers + fitted long-sleeve top + retro sneakers.

Or straight jeans + cardigan + sneakers.

You don't need to turn yourself into a track star from 1978 to wear them. Let the shoe bring the sporty part.

Colorful Sneakers

PLEASE give me color.

I love a white sneaker as much as the next person, but I'm so happy that sneakers are getting fun again.

Red, blue, green, yellow, weird color combinations...all of it.

And this is probably one of the easiest 2027 sneaker trends to actually wear.

If most of your closet is denim, black, white, gray, brown, or navy, you can literally keep wearing the same outfits and just swap in a colorful sneaker.

I love blue sneakers with brown pants right now.

Red sneakers also look SO good with gray, navy, or faded denim.

And no, your bag does not need to match your shoes.

Brown Suede Sneakers

Brown sneakers aren't exactly brand new, but I definitely don't think they're going anywhere in 2027.

Especially suede.

Chocolate brown, tobacco, tan...basically all of those warmer shades that make a sneaker feel a little less sporty than your standard bright white pair.

I love these with cream, navy, olive, denim, and honestly pretty much anything you'd normally wear with a neutral sneaker.

Dark jeans + cream cardigan + brown suede sneakers is such an easy outfit.

Obviously suede is not what I'm reaching for when it's pouring rain or there's disgusting gray sidewalk slush everywhere, but for fall? So good.

Silver Sneakers

Silver sneakers have already been around for a minute, but I think they're going to evolve right along with the slimmer sneaker trend.

Instead of big technical sneakers with silver panels everywhere, think smaller, sleeker sneakers with a metallic finish.

I LOVE these if you want something more interesting than white sneakers but don't necessarily want a bright color.

They look especially good with black, gray, denim, and simple neutral outfits.

And please don't worry about whether you can wear gold jewelry with silver sneakers.

You can.

Animal Print Sneakers

If you love leopard print but don't necessarily want to commit to leopard pants, this is your trend.

Animal-print sneakers are such an easy way to make an otherwise basic outfit way more interesting.

I'd wear leopard sneakers with black straight-leg jeans, a white tee, and a jacket and call it a day.

They're also really cute with olive pants or dark denim.

The key for me is letting the sneaker be the print.

You don't need a leopard bag, leopard belt, and leopard scrunchie to make it make sense.

Technical Running Sneakers

Before you panic and throw away every sneaker with an actual sole, no, chunky sneakers are not disappearing completely.

Technical running-style sneakers are still very much happening.

I actually think 2027 is going to be less about ONE sneaker shape being trendy and more about having totally different options.

So while we're getting these paper-thin little sneakers on one end, we're still going to have mesh, layered, sporty running sneakers on the other.

I love these with real clothes instead of a full workout outfit.

Think trousers + cardigan + technical sneakers.

Or a midi skirt + sweatshirt + sneakers.

That contrast is what makes them feel cool.

Gorpcore Sneakers

Gorpcore sneakers are still going strong for 2027, especially the Salomon-style sneakers that look like you could theoretically hike a mountain in them even though you're actually wearing them to Target.

These are chunkier, more technical, and way more outdoorsy than most of the other sneakers on this list, which is exactly why I think they still work even as sneakers overall are getting slimmer.

I especially love them when the rest of the outfit has nothing to do with hiking.

Like Salomons + wide leg jeans + an oversized sweater.

Or with leggings + crew socks + a barn jacket.

They're also really good with those slightly oversized, sporty outfits that have been everywhere lately.

And if you're bored of Sambas but aren't ready to wear one of the super skinny sneaker trends yet, this feels like a VERY easy direction to go in.

Clog/Slipper Sneaker Hybrids

Kinda like an Ugg slipper or a Birkenstock clog had a baby with a sneaker.

Another low profile, hybrid type sneaker that I think is going to be HUGE. Because we always need a trending version of our easy slip-on shoe.

Nice part about this trend is it is so easy to style into your everyday looks. You can pretty much wear it with any and everything you would wear with your ugg slippers or clogs.

Definitely a fun one I’d keep my eye on this season!

Football-Inspired Sneakers

This is one of those trends that's just different enough to make a basic sneaker feel new.

Football-inspired sneakers have longer tongues that fold over the laces, giving them that very obvious retro soccer/football look.

I think we're going to see more of these in 2027, especially as everyone keeps looking for the next version of the slim retro sneaker.

I'd wear them with straight-leg pants that hit above the tongue or with a casual skirt + socks.

And unless you're actually going to a game, I probably wouldn't style them with a matching jersey.

A little sporty reference is enough.

Embellished Sneakers

On the complete opposite end of the simple sneaker spectrum: embellished sneakers.

Pearls, charms, jewelry-like details, decorative laces...basically sneakers that are doing the absolute most.

And honestly? I think they're fun.

Especially if the rest of your wardrobe is pretty simple.

A gray cardigan + dark jeans + embellished sneakers is way more interesting than the same outfit with plain white sneakers.

Or wear them with a simple black dress and let the shoes basically replace your accessories.

I wouldn't personally choose a pair covered in seventeen different things at once, but a little pearl or jewelry detail? Cute.

Woven + Crochet Sneakers

We're also getting sneakers that barely look like traditional sneakers at all.

Woven and crochet uppers are starting to show up, especially on sneaker-flat hybrids, and I think they'll be a big warm-weather version of this trend in 2027.
