Trendy Pregnancy Outfit Formulas (That Don’t Show Your Belly)
I am very much here for the fact that pregnancy style has gotten so much cooler lately.
We’ve moved way past the idea that you need to hide your bump under giant tunic tops for nine months, and I love that.
But somewhere along the way, trendy pregnancy outfits also became very, very into having your actual belly out.
Crop tops. Cardigans buttoned once over a bare bump. Bras under oversized jackets. Shirts that are basically just there for moral support.
And while I genuinely love those outfits on other people, sometimes I just want to look cute and current without my actual stomach being out.
So that’s what these outfit formulas are for.
These aren’t outfits for hiding your bump. Quite the opposite! A lot of these still show off your bump and work with your changing shape. They just keep your actual belly covered while still feeling like something you’d want to wear even if you weren’t pregnant.

Let’s get into the outfit formulas:
1. Denim on Denim
Maternity jeans + a basic white top + an oversized denim shirt is such an easy combination that still feels really current.

Leave the denim shirt open and add sneakers, ballet flats or clogs depending on the vibe you’re going for.
I especially like this one because you don’t really need to buy anything besides the maternity jeans. An oversized denim shirt you already own should work for most, if not all, of your pregnancy.
2. Cardigan Over a Maxi Dress
This is one of my favorite ways to make a basic maternity maxi dress feel a little more styled.
Throw a cardigan over it and leave the last few buttons undone so you can still see the dress underneath.
You get that cute partially unbuttoned cardigan look that’s everywhere right now without the bare belly underneath.
Add sneakers for everyday or ballet flats and a cute bag if you want it to feel a little more put together.
3. Oversized Top + Bike Shorts or Leggings
This is probably the easiest pregnancy outfit formula on this entire list.

Start with maternity bike shorts or leggings and add an oversized button-down, sweatshirt or sweater that you already own.
Crew socks and sneakers make the whole thing feel more intentional, and you can add a baseball hat or bigger tote for running-around days.
Comfortable, easy and still cute enough that you don’t feel like you’ve completely given up.
4. Fitted Maxi Dress + Cropped Jacket
You absolutely do not have to hide the bump to keep your belly covered.
A fitted maternity maxi dress is perfect for showing it off, and adding a cropped jacket makes the whole outfit feel much more like an actual outfit.
Try a cropped denim jacket, bomber, barn jacket or suede jacket depending on the season.
The contrast between the fitted dress and boxier jacket is what makes this one work.
5. Comfy Overalls + Basic Top
Overalls are one of those things that just make sense during pregnancy.
They’re roomy, comfortable and you don’t have to deal with anything digging into your waist.
I’d skip anything that feels overly cutesy and go for a more relaxed pair with a fitted tank or tee underneath.
Add sneakers, clogs or Birkenstocks and keep everything else simple.
6. Button-Down Over an Active Jumpsuit
An active jumpsuit is basically the pregnancy version of getting dressed without actually having to put an outfit together.
Throw an oversized button-down over it and suddenly it looks like you tried.
I’d leave the shirt completely open and pair it with sneakers, crew socks and a casual bag.
You still get the fitted jumpsuit look and can show off your bump without having to do the crop top over it.
7. Button-Down + Wide-Leg Pants
Another outfit that can mostly be made from non-maternity pieces you may already have.
Look for stretchy or maternity wide-leg pants and wear them with a simple fitted tank or tee. Then layer an oversized button-down over everything.
You can leave the shirt open, button it partially or wear it completely loose depending on what feels best as your bump grows.
This is also an easy formula to make nicer with trousers and a pair of flats instead of casual pants and sneakers.
8. Matching Sweat Set
Pregnancy is exactly the time when I want an outfit that requires approximately zero thought.
A matching sweat set does that while still looking like you intentionally got dressed.
Go for a roomier sweatshirt with matching wide-leg or relaxed sweatpants, then add sneakers and a cute bag.
The matching pieces are what keep it from feeling like you just wore your pajamas out of the house.
9. Babydoll Top + Wide-Leg Pants
If you want something looser without falling into the stereotypical maternity-clothes category, this is such a cute option.
A babydoll top gives you plenty of room around your bump, while wide-leg pants keep the proportions feeling current.
I’d keep the accessories simple with flats, sandals or sneakers and a shoulder bag.
This is also a good option for those days when you really don’t want anything fitted against your stomach.
10. Button-Down + Flowy Maxi Skirt
A flowy maxi skirt with an elastic or maternity waistband can get you through a LOT of pregnancy outfits.

Pair it with a simple tank or tee and throw an oversized button-down over it.
You can wear the shirt open or button a few buttons depending on where it hits your bump.
Add sneakers for a more casual look or ballet flats for something a little prettier.
11. Maternity Jeans + Basic Top + Sweater Over Your Shoulders
This is barely even a formula, which is exactly why I love it.
Maternity jeans, a fitted basic tee or tank and a sweater tossed over your shoulders.
That one extra layer makes a super basic jeans-and-tee outfit look way more styled without adding anything uncomfortable around your stomach.
Finish it with sneakers, loafers or ballet flats.
12. Fitted Dress + Oversized Blazer
If you want something a little more polished, start with a fitted maternity midi or maxi dress and add an oversized blazer.

You still get to show off the bump, but your entire stomach is covered and the blazer gives the outfit some structure.
This is especially good for work, dinner, showers or any situation where leggings aren't quite going to cut it.
13. Maternity Jeans + Fitted Tee + Boxy Jacket
This is basically the pregnancy version of an outfit you’d probably already wear.
Grab maternity jeans, add a fitted tee and finish it with a boxy bomber, barn jacket or cropped jacket.
The fitted top lets the bump be the moment while the jacket makes the outfit feel more current.
Add your favorite sneakers and you’re done.
14. Maxi Skirt + Oversized Sweater
A stretchy maxi skirt and oversized sweater is such an easy fall and winter pregnancy outfit.
You can wear the skirt over your bump with the sweater falling over the waistband, so there’s no awkward little strip of exposed stomach in between.
Add sneakers, clogs or boots depending on the weather.
I also love that both pieces can easily be non-maternity if you choose something with enough stretch.
15. Maternity Trousers + Fitted Long-Sleeve Top
This one is so simple but looks especially good when you keep everything in similar colors.
Try maternity wide-leg trousers with a fitted long-sleeve tee, then add flats, sneakers or a low heel.
The fitted top still shows off your bump, but you get a completely covered look that feels sleek instead of overly “maternity.”
You could also add an oversized blazer or jacket if you want another layer.
You Can Show Off Your Bump Without Showing Your Belly
Pregnancy style does not have to mean choosing between hiding under a giant shirt and having your bare stomach out.
You can wear fitted clothes. You can show off your bump. You can keep wearing trends. And you can absolutely still dress like yourself.
Sometimes you just want your shirt to cover your entire stomach, and I really don’t think that’s too much to ask.
The easiest way to make pregnancy outfits feel current is to keep using the outfit formulas you already love and swap in maternity-friendly versions of the pieces that actually need to accommodate your bump.
A few good basics like maternity jeans, stretchy wide-leg pants, fitted tanks and tees, leggings and a simple maxi dress can do most of the heavy lifting. Then use your regular oversized button-downs, jackets, cardigans, sweaters and accessories to make them actually feel like you.
