2027 Denim Trends That Are Going to Be Everywhere

Denim trends have been changing slowly but surely over the last few years.

I’m old enough to remember a time when the ONLY option was skinny jeans. But as the (many) years have went on, the more options we seem to have!

And now for 2027, things have evolved to a place where you almost can’t go wrong because there’s such a variety of styles that are considered cool.

I'm seeing slimmer jeans coming back, bootcut jeans getting even bigger, dark denim everywhere and some more fun options like animal print jeans and huge cuffs.

Basically, there isn't one single jean style you need to own right now. Which I personally love because I refuse to participate in another era where we're all wearing the exact same pair of jeans.

So if you're wondering what jeans are in style for 2027, these are the denim trends I think we're going to be seeing everywhere.

2027 Denim Trends

1. Dark Indigo Denim

Dark denim is going to be HUGE in 2027.

We've had so many years of light and medium wash jeans dominating that super dark indigo suddenly feels really fresh again.

And I'm not talking about just slightly darker blue jeans. I'm talking about that really deep, saturated indigo that almost looks black depending on the lighting.

I especially love this wash on bootcut and straight leg jeans.

It's still denim, obviously, but it feels a little more dressed up and makes even a basic jeans outfit look more put together.

2. Bootcut Jeans

Bootcut jeans are officially back.

They've been slowly making their way back for a while now, but I think 2027 is going to be the year they really take off.

And thankfully, these don't feel like the exact bootcut jeans we were wearing 20 years ago.

The newer versions are fitted through the thigh with a subtle flare starting around the knee. Nothing crazy. Just enough shape to make them feel different from all the straight and wide leg jeans we've been wearing.

I especially love them really long with a pointed toe shoe underneath.

3. Cigarette Jeans

This is probably going to be one of the more controversial 2027 denim trends because jeans are officially getting slimmer again.

Cigarette jeans are basically somewhere between straight leg jeans and skinny jeans.

They're slim through the leg, but they don't completely cling to your calves and ankles.

And honestly, after years of everything being SO oversized, I can see why this shape is starting to look good again.

I really like them slightly cropped with ballet flats or loafers.

4. Low-Rise Jeans

Low-rise jeans are still going strong for 2027.

But I feel like it's important to clarify what we're talking about here because I know some of us immediately hear "low rise" and have traumatic flashbacks to jeans with a two-inch zipper.

The low-rise jeans that feel current right now are much more relaxed.

They're sitting lower on the hips, but they're usually paired with a looser straight or wide leg instead of being insanely tight everywhere.

If you're a high-rise jeans forever person, I'm not here to convince you otherwise. But this is definitely one of those trends that's getting harder to ignore.

5. Barrel Leg Jeans

Barrel leg jeans are sticking around.

I wasn't totally convinced these were going to have staying power when they first started popping up everywhere, but at this point I think they've officially earned their spot in the denim rotation.

The good news is that I'm seeing more subtle versions now.

You don't necessarily need the super exaggerated horseshoe shape. A slightly curved leg gives you the same look and is way easier to style.

I actually really like these with a fitted tee or sweater and a simple shoe because the jeans already give the outfit enough shape.

6. Relaxed Straight Leg Jeans

If you want something that feels current without feeling overly trendy, relaxed straight leg jeans are probably the safest bet.

They're basically the happy medium between straight leg and baggy jeans.

You still get that relaxed look, but you're not drowning in denim.

I think these are especially good if you've been wearing wide leg jeans and want something a little slimmer without suddenly jumping all the way over to cigarette jeans.

They're also ridiculously easy to style, which never hurts.

7. Brown Denim

Chocolate brown has been everywhere in fashion in general, so I'm not surprised that we're starting to see more brown jeans.

And I actually love them.

They give you something different from regular blue jeans without venturing into bright colored denim territory.

Chocolate brown, washed brown and slightly faded tobacco shades all work here.

I especially like brown denim with cream, black, gray or even more brown.

8. Utility Jeans

Utility details are another denim trend I'm seeing more of heading into 2027.

Think carpenter-style jeans, patch pockets, loops and workwear details.

These aren't necessarily full-on cargo jeans with enormous pockets sticking off the sides.

It's more about taking those little utility details and adding them to jeans we'd actually wear every day.

I like this trend best when the rest of the jeans are pretty simple because then those details actually stand out.

9. Side-Stripe Jeans

Side-stripe jeans are another trend I'm seeing pop up more and more.

They're basically jeans with a contrasting stripe running down the outside of each leg, giving them a little bit of that track pant look.

And I actually really like these.

We've been wearing Adidas track pants and sporty pieces with everything lately, so this feels like the denim version of that trend.

Some have a really obvious white or colored stripe, while others are more subtle with a darker denim panel running down the side.

Either way, it's an easy way to make jeans and a basic top feel way more interesting without doing too much.

10. Denim-on-Denim

Denim-on-denim is definitely sticking around for 2027.

And I'm actually really into the versions where the denim on top and bottom doesn’t even match.

A denim button down with slightly darker jeans looks SO good and feels way more curated and chic than being matchy-matchy.

We're also seeing denim jackets, denim tops and matching denim sets, so you definitely don't have to limit this one to the classic denim shirt and jeans situation.

11. Cuffed Jeans

Huge cuffs are one of my favorite denim trends happening right now.

And I'm not talking about casually rolling your jeans up once because they're too long.

The cuff is the point.

We're seeing jeans with really thick, exaggerated cuffs at the bottom that instantly make a basic pair of jeans look more interesting.

I especially love this on dark denim because the contrast on the inside of the cuff makes it stand out even more.

This is also one of those trends that's really easy to try without completely changing the type of jeans you already like wearing.

12. Animal Print Jeans

Animal print jeans are coming in HOT.

Leopard is obviously the big one, but we're also seeing zebra, cow print and other animal prints making their way onto denim.

And yes, they're a lot.

But that's kind of why I like them.

Instead of trying to make the entire outfit interesting, you can literally wear animal print jeans with the most basic black top and shoes you own and you're done.

I think leopard jeans in particular are going to be one of those things we start seeing all over Pinterest and suddenly everyone wants a pair.

13. Bermuda + Long Denim Shorts

And finally, denim shorts are getting LONG.

The tiny denim cutoffs aren't necessarily disappearing, but Bermuda shorts and longer denim shorts are becoming a much bigger part of the conversation.

We're talking shorts that hit around the knee or just above it, usually with a looser fit through the leg.

I know this one is going to be divisive.

But styled with a fitted tank or tee and a cute flat, kitten heel or sneaker, I actually think they can look really cool.

And after years of every denim short somehow getting progressively shorter, it's definitely a change.

What Jeans Are in Style for 2027?

The biggest thing about denim in 2027 is that we're definitely getting some variety.

Wide and relaxed jeans aren't suddenly disappearing, but they're not the only option anymore.

Bootcuts are back. Cigarette jeans are creeping in. Low-rise is sticking around. Barrel jeans are still going strong.

And then you have trends like dark indigo, brown denim, side stripes, giant cuffs and animal print that can make even a pretty basic jean shape feel completely different.

Personally, I'm most excited about dark denim, bootcuts and cuffed jeans because they're different enough to make my outfits feel new without requiring me to completely relearn how to get dressed.
