The Best TikTok Beauty Trends Worth Trying
TikTok has given us some genuinely great beauty ideas over the years.
It has also convinced people to put approximately 47 products on their face before going to bed, so obviously we need to be a little selective here.
There are constantly new beauty trends going viral, but every once in a while, one comes along that actually deserves a permanent spot in your routine.
From ridiculously easy heatless curls to makeup tricks that make your makeup look better with basically no extra effort, these are the TikTok beauty trends I think are actually worth trying.

1. Heatless Curls
If I had to pick one TikTok beauty trend that deserves all the hype, heatless curls would be pretty high on the list.
There are a million different ways to do them now, from the classic satin curling rods to sock curls and all of the overnight blowout contraptions that have taken over my feed.
The obvious appeal is getting big, bouncy hair without reaching for a curling iron every morning.
There can definitely be a learning curve depending on your hair type, but once you figure out the placement and how damp your hair should be, they're SO good.
2. Underpainting
Underpainting sounds way more complicated than it actually is.
You apply your contour, bronzer and sometimes blush before your foundation, then layer your base over everything.
It makes everything look softer and more blended, especially if your contour has a tendency to get a little out of control.
I also love that you don't have to learn some completely new makeup technique to do it. You're basically just switching up the order you apply everything.
3. Skin Cycling
Skin cycling went viral for good reason, especially if you're someone who owns a bunch of skincare products and has no idea when you're supposed to use any of them.
The basic idea is rotating your stronger skincare products instead of piling everything onto your face every single night.
You might exfoliate one night, use a retinoid the next and then spend a couple of nights sticking with gentle, hydrating products.
Obviously everyone's skin is different, but I definitely prefer this approach to throwing every active you own at your face at once.

4. Skin Flooding
If your skin is constantly dry, skin flooding is probably one of the easiest TikTok trends to try.
You apply lightweight hydrating products while your skin is still slightly damp and finish with moisturizer to help lock everything in.
You can keep it really simple too. Damp skin, a hydrating serum and your regular moisturizer are plenty.
No 12-step skincare routine required.
5. Slugging
Slugging has been around long before TikTok gave it a cute name, but TikTok definitely helped bring it back into the mainstream.
Basically, you apply a thin layer of an occlusive product like petrolatum as the final step of your nighttime skincare routine to help prevent moisture loss overnight.
I don't think this is something everyone needs to do every single night, especially if you're acne-prone.
But when it's January and your face suddenly feels like the Sahara Desert? I get it.
6. Morning Shed
The "morning shed" might have one of the most dramatic names TikTok has ever given a beauty routine.
The whole idea is going to bed wearing a bunch of overnight beauty treatments and then "shedding" everything in the morning.
Some people take this VERY far.
Heatless curls, mouth tape, wrinkle patches, eye masks, chin straps...the whole situation can start looking slightly unhinged.
I'm not sleeping in 14 different beauty products every night, but I do love the general idea of getting some of your beauty routine done while you sleep.
Especially if it buys you more time in the morning.

7. Cherry Cola Lips
Cherry cola lips are one of those TikTok makeup trends that actually translates really well into real life.
You basically pair a deeper brown or burgundy lip liner with a sheer red, berry or cherry-colored gloss.
It has that slightly '90s darker lip line with a glossy red center and I LOVE it.
It's especially good for fall, but I would absolutely wear this year-round.
8. Brown Mascara
After years of automatically buying the blackest mascara available, brown mascara suddenly started showing up everywhere.
And I get it.
You still get plenty of definition, but it can look so much softer with lighter, everyday makeup.
If you constantly feel like black mascara looks a little intense on you, this is probably the easiest trend on this entire list to try.
9. Boyfriend Blush
I hate the name, but I actually really like boyfriend blush.
Instead of putting your blush super high on your cheekbones, you bring the color lower onto the cheeks where you would naturally get flushed.
It's such a small change, but blush placement can completely change the way your makeup looks.
And after YEARS of putting our blush as high as humanly possible, I'm ready to switch it up.
10. Lip Contouring
TikTok has thankfully evolved past aggressively overlining every inch of your lips.
Lip contouring is a little more strategic.
You're using liner to add definition and subtly emphasize certain parts of your natural lip shape instead of drawing yourself an entirely new mouth.
A little extra definition around the Cupid's bow and center of the bottom lip can make your lips look fuller without making it painfully obvious that you've overlined them.
11. Faux Freckles
Faux freckles have been floating around TikTok for a while now, and when they're done well, they're SO cute.
You can use a freckle pen, brow product or even self-tanner to add tiny freckles across your nose and cheeks.
The biggest thing here is making them look random. If they're all the same size and perfectly spaced, it's going to look like you stamped dots across your face.
Keep them subtle and imperfect and they're really cute with lighter, glowy makeup.

12. Hair Gloss Treatments
Hair glosses are one of my favorite options when your hair is looking blah but you don't actually want to change it.
They can add shine, refresh your existing color and basically make your hair look healthier without doing anything dramatic.
You can get one professionally at the salon or try one of the at-home glosses that have gotten really popular.
This is also such a good option when you're bored with your hair but know you're going to regret doing anything drastic to it.

13. Scalp Oiling
Hair oiling has absolutely exploded on TikTok.
Usually, people apply oil to their scalp and sometimes through the lengths of their hair before washing, let it sit for a while and then shampoo it out.
This is one where I would NOT blindly copy someone's seven-oil TikTok concoction.
Different scalps and hair types have different needs, and covering your entire head in a bunch of random oils isn't automatically going to give you amazing hair.
If you find a pre-wash oil treatment that actually works for you, though, I can definitely see the appeal.

14. Hair Wax Sticks
I can't believe hair wax sticks weren't a bigger thing sooner.
They're basically solid styling products you can swipe over flyaways, baby hairs and all of those annoying little pieces that refuse to stay down.
They're especially good for slicked-back buns and ponytails because you can smooth everything down without absolutely shellacking your head with hairspray.
Just don't go crazy with it.
There is a very fine line between sleek and "I haven't washed my hair since last Tuesday."
15. Body Serums and Body Oils
Our faces have been getting elaborate skincare routines forever while the rest of our skin gets whatever body lotion happens to be sitting under the sink.
TikTok has definitely helped change that.
Body serums, oils and more targeted body treatments have gotten SO popular, and I actually love this.
You definitely don't need a separate 10-step skincare routine for your legs, but adding a body serum or oil can be amazing if your skin is always dry.
16. Overnight Lip Masks
This might be the lowest-effort beauty trend on the entire list.
Put on a thick lip treatment before bed. Go to sleep. Wake up with lips that aren't completely dried out.
Done.
I especially love these during the winter, and most of them can double as a really glossy lip treatment during the day.
17. Soap and Milky Nails
After years of increasingly elaborate nail art, some of the biggest nail trends have gotten surprisingly simple.
Soap nails and milky manicures use those sheer, creamy, barely-there shades that make your nails look ridiculously good without much going on.
They're also perfect if you're someone who gets sick of your manicure five days after getting it done because they go with everything.
And as someone who loves a trend but doesn't necessarily want tiny strawberries painted on my nails for three weeks, I appreciate this one.

18. Chrome French Tips
Chrome French tips are SUCH a good update to a classic French manicure.
You still have that simple neutral base, but the tips are chrome instead of the usual white.
Silver is probably the version you've seen the most, but I've seen gold, pearl and colored chrome versions that are really good too.
You get something a little more interesting without committing to a crazy nail design.

19. Press-On Nails
Press-on nails have come a LONG way.
Some of the newer ones look shockingly similar to a professional manicure, and you can find basically any shape, length or design you could possibly want now.
I especially love them for a vacation, wedding, holiday or weekend when you want fun nails but don't necessarily want to commit to them for the next three weeks.
Just don't slap them on five minutes before you walk out the door and expect them to survive until next Friday.
Prep matters!

20. Red Light Masks
This is definitely the biggest investment on the list, but red light masks have become one of those beauty gadgets that are EVERYWHERE on TikTok.
LED light therapy isn't something TikTok invented, but I also wouldn't spend hundreds of dollars on a random mask just because an influencer is wearing it while she makes her morning coffee.
This is one where I would actually do some research first.
Find a reputable device, use it the way you're supposed to and don't expect to wake up looking 10 years younger after wearing it twice.
Which TikTok Beauty Trends Are Actually Worth Trying?
TikTok will probably invent another 15 beauty trends by the time you finish reading this, but there are definitely some good ones buried in the chaos.
Heatless curls, hair glosses, faux freckles, hair wax sticks and some of the skincare trends on this list are all things I'd actually try.
You definitely don't need to jump on every beauty trend that hits your For You Page.
Keep the good ones. Keep scrolling past the weird ones, and please let me know the results when you try them out!
